Working 1937 Western Electric 302 Dial Desk Set Just Plug it in - Wired, Tested & Guaranteed to Work and Ring This is a 1937 Western Electric 302 telephone desk set with a #4 dial with celluloid face plate and a dated 1937 E1 handset. It is a well-marked with 1937 dates and looks great. The network is III-37 which means 3th quarter 1937, metal frame is marked 9-37 for September 1937. This phone has been powder coated and it has a beautiful rich shine. The handset cradle has short ears and the switch hook plungers are a smaller diameter only found on 1937 302 desk sets. This phone has the 4 rivets that hold the ringer and a flat base which is only on 1937 Western Electric 302’s. The upper shell, below the dial there is a wooded dowel that holds the ringer in place when the shell is attached to the base. This dowel is only found on 1937 Western Electric 302 desk sets. The E1 handset is dated 8-37and a flat back F1 transmitter capsule dated 8-37 for August 1937. The 4H dial is not dated and has been lightly oiled and operates properly. It makes that distinctive clackity clack sound when dialing out. The phone still has the original 59A gasket the seats the dial onto the metal base, these usually harden and are lost during restoration. The dial face plate is yellow celluloid and has crisp red number and black letters. The nickel number card hold has a card that reads: (arrow shows direction of dial) REMOVE RECEIVER PUT FINGER IN HOLE OVER FIRST FIGURE WANTED, RETURN TO STOP AND LET GO. REPEAT OPERATION FOR EACH SUCCEEDING FIGURE. WESTERN ELECTRIC COMPANY INC. The receiver cord is new cloth covered. The line cord is also new and has cloth just like the originals but has a modular jack on the end. Just plug it into a standard wall outlet and it is a working phone. When the phone rings the matching 40A and 40B bells produce those rich clear tones. These early brass bells are only found on early 1937 and 1938 Western Electric 302 desk sets. The ringer is not dated however that is normal for 1937 Western Electric ringers. The phones handgrip is not louvered; louvers were discontinued by Western Electric in the last half of 1937 after Western Electric determined they were not necessary. This phone has been thoroughly cleaned and tested and provides excellent transmission quality when making or receiving calls. This phone is guaranteed to work.
